Cyprinus carpio (Common Carp)

Status: Introduced.

Size: Reach lengths 120 cm and 40kg. Large scales of bronze to olive in colour above and paler below, forked tail and two pairs barbles on either side of a fleshy lipped mouth. Forked tail. Reduced scaled “Mirror Carp” and scaleless” Leather Carp” varieties occur in the wild. Dorsal and anal fin has a hard serrated front spine. Note that goldfish-carp hybrids do occur with one pair of barbles at the mouth.

Location: Found throughout many parts of the region.
