Tortricopsis semijunctella and pyroptis are similar species that have at least the vestiges of two parallel transverse lines running in from the costa of the forewing. While T. semijunctella is generally larger and darker in colour, there are exceptions and neither of these characteristics helps much when comparing two photos. The species scan best be distinguished by the positions of the transverse lines. In T. pyroptis the inner transverse line leaves the costa at about ¼ of the distance from the base; the outer one at about 1/3; and the remainder of the costa is mostly the same colour as the forewing generally. In T. semijunctella, the two lines leave the costs further out, at about 1/3 and 1/2; and further along the costa there are three dark spots.
