A new species sighting for NatureMapr's Canberra and Southern Tablelands region if confirmed, Excellent photo, and yes, it would be nice to see more sightings corresponding with apparently un-named species.

Proteuxoa (genus)

Thanks to WendyEM for suggesting the MoV species 'Proteuxoa sp. 3 (MoV, Part 9), illustrated notes for which are available on the supporting disc for that un-named species. The notes state: 'This species is similar to P. adelopa but is has a dark collar on the the thorax' (see notes above that effect). The Museum of Victoria has one specimen (Dromana, 1980) and ANIC has more specimens from NSW and the ACT ( eg. Trangie, NSW, 1952). The two specimens (only females) illustrated by MoV also show a diffuse orbicular spot in line with the reniform mark at the base of the forewing as can also be seem in this sighting. The plain wing, no 'checks, and a 'stripe' at the termen and a generally dark sub-terminal area all correspond. Also I note the illustrated specimens also show the costal spots referred to above. I'm not sure I see the russet colour near the reniform mark in the illustreated MoV specimens on our moth, so that feature may indicate our specimen above is a male.

Hi Glenn, I've suggested renaming this record to Furcatrox (genus) to remove the redundancy with 'Furcatrox sp. "and all the other Furcatrox (genus) sightings on NatireMapr. However, the photo seems to be missing. Please supply it if yu have it or delete the record as you see fit. I suspect the record may also be there on the ALA already anyway?
